A Young City, Rich in History

Despite McCamey’s size (only two square miles), the City and surrounding area boasts more than 20 Texas Historical Markers, the Mendoza Trail Museum (and Adrian House), and a prominent place along the famous Texas Pecos and Mendoza Trails.

Our City was established in 1925, named after wildcatter George B. McCamey, whose flowing discovery well started an oil boom here. George painted “McCamey” on the side of a boxcar (so that he could receive deliveries to his new business), and the name stuck.
